When the bride and groom are both ER doctors, their wedding day should be nothing but calm and relaxed – no emergency or stress needed! So, what better place to escape than to the Hawaiian Islands for the perfect wedding getaway?! We were thrilled to be a part of Maya and John’s Maui destination wedding! The entire event incorporated everything they love sun, surf and their favorite people.
Friends and family traveled to the gorgeous Hawaiian Island of Maui to celebrate their union. The bridal party was comprised solely of family members. Parents, siblings, nieces and nephews stood witness to Maya & John’s union while Maya’s brother Satoshi Kido was the officiant.
Many of the day’s details incorporated memories from fun times they’ve spent together, their heritage, and the Island’s culture. The couple was bound with a lasso made out of banana palms during the ceremony, a nod to his Mexican/Catholic heritage and their island wedding. Instead of being numbered, each table was named after the couple’s very favorite surf spots from days when they had the best time in the water together.
The seating chart and menu were hand painted on two surfboards and custom menus were calligraphed onto wine bottles for the bar. Guests put their thumbprint down to make up the petals of a hand drawn plumeria lei and initialed their custom print to the couple. And, of course, in true Hawaiian culture, a lei making station during cocktail hour allowed guests to make their own leis to wear during the evening the biggest hit of the night!
John’s brother and Best Man, Don, wrote a song just for the couple while at the wedding reception. Borrowing a guitar from Da Ukulele Boyz, he played it for the couple, and the entire wedding party. It was truly such a touching moment! As he began to play, guests came forward to create a semi-circle encompassing him and the couple. By the second time he sang the chorus, every single wedding guest joined in and were singing the song in unison. There was not a dry eye in the group!
Not only do Maya and John have brightest smiles you have ever seen, but they’re smart, dedicated and two of the nicest most genuine people we have ever known. We are truly blessed to have been a part of such an incredible time in their lives. Congratulations, again!
