Persian weddings are a day full of family, endless love, decadent foods, and a whole lot of tradition. Take the sofre aghd, for example. This is a lavish table filled with items that each hold distinct symbolism. Most importantly, there is a mirror at the center of the table framed by two candelabras on each side. These items represent the aspects of fire and light. The mirror reflects the grooms first look at the stunning bride after she removes her veil. The mirror also represents a bright look into the future for the newlyweds. You can also find herbs, gold coins, spices, a holy book, flatbread, deserts, the list goes on and on. These items are all placed for health, prosperity, fertility, and blessings. It’s beautiful customs like these that create a glamorous yet traditional Persian wedding ceremony!
