Throughout our years of planning weddings and events in Southern California, we fall more in love with our hometown and this popular destination location every year! To help newly engaged couples considering SoCal, here are our best tips to planning a Southern California destination wedding.
- View your locations in person. You may think you LOVE a certain location based on the photos you’ve seen online, but it may not have the flow or the space you desire. Or perhaps the area has gone through changes that are not reflected in print. Be sure you enjoy the area and all of the property before making any decisions.
- Plan a planning trip to meet everyone and book vendors. Call around and let them know your situation. If you are only able to come in a few times before your wedding, many vendors will try their best to make themselves available while you are in town. Combine meetings for efficiency. Have the florist or the photographer meet you at the venue you are touring to multi-task and keep you from driving all over.
- Think about your guests’ experience. Be sure to work through travel plans like closet airport, room blocks with discounted rates at nearby hotels, and perhaps suggest some fun activities
- Take advantage of technology. Skype, FaceTime, Pinterest and Instagram can be your best friends in transporting you onsite for meetings and helping to convey and best express your vision.
- Hire a local wedding planner. We may seem partial to this for clear reasons, but it truly is important. If you won’t be able to be there for every vendor meeting, you’ll need someone you can trust, who knows the area intimately, to help guide you and hold your hand through every step.
- Always ask your planner for advice. They are planning a wedding in an area they are best acquainted with. They know who to work with and who would best fit your style. From officiants to florists, photobooths to food trucks for late night snacks, they know it all. Check with them first before hiring someone you found on Yelp.
We hope we were able to guide you with wonderful tips for planning a Southern California destination (or local) wedding! It is our favorite place in the world!
