In lieu of homework, I spent my Sunday night watching VH1 Divas Salute the Troops. A two hour televised performance by people like Keri Hilson, Katy Perry, Niki Minaj, Sugarland, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals for the troops. (THANK YOU to all who protect and serve our country). A big Keri Hilson fan, I immediately turned up the volume and started singing with her as she performed “Pretty Girl Rock”. As the camera panned over the audience it showed different women singing along. Different ethnicity, size, military or civilian; it didn’t matter because they all embraced their beauty.

When you first listen to this song, the words conceited and vain may come to mind but in truth every girl should sing this song loud and proud. Be confident. Shed your insecurities. Embrace it girls, no matter who you are. You are beautiful! Confidence shines brighter than conceitedness. From a size 2 to 14. Whether your wedding budget is $2,000 to $20,000. You know you’re pretty, tell yourself that you’re pretty. Who cares what anyone else thinks or has ever said about you. Every woman’s magazine features articles about loving yourself so go ahead and do it.
Make this song your theme song when you’re getting ready for a night out for your bachlorette. Sing it again before you walk down the aisle. This will be one of the most memorable days of your life. After all, you’re paying for it. Hair stylist, massages, facials, make up artist…he thinks you’re beautiful and you should believe it too.
